Electric Guest, the beloved LA based indie pop band formed by songwriter/producer Asa Taccone and acclaimed film/TV composer Matthew Compton return with their fourth album, 10K, including “Play Your Guitar”, a breezy, instantly catchy contender for song of the summer. Released via Independent CO, the track builds from a driving four-on-the-floor drum machine and softly strummed acoustic riff before blossoming into a sweeping earworm. Lyrically, it wrestles with anxieties about uncertain futures, both personal and societal (“fortune teller, politician, operator on the phone,” “synthesize it, multiply it, advertise it over”)—before landing in a chorus that celebrates the timeless clarity of simply playing a guitar.

Beyond Electric Guest, Taccone is a Grammy-nominated songwriter and producer with wide-ranging credits across pop, film, TV, and theater. He co-wrote and co-produced Portugal. The Man’s Billboard No. 1 hit “Feel It Still”, which won a 2018 Grammy for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, and has also worked with Carly Rae Jepsen, H.E.R., Charlotte Gainsbourg, Aminé, Phantogram, Foster the People, and Badshah. More recently, he collaborated with The Weeknd to co-write and produce Lily Rose Depp’s “World Class Sinner / I’m A Freak”—the cult single from HBO’s The Idol that GQ hailed as 2024’s Song of the Summer—and teamed up with Charli XCX for SNL’s viral “Here I Go” short.
