Product Description
Collection of Robertson's music and scores from the films, The Last Waltz, Carny, and Raging Bull, featuring a previously unissued track from Carny Released in full cooperation from Robbie Robertson's estate and in conjunction with his memoir Insomnia Liner notes from longtime noted film/television music expert Jon Burlingame Robbie Robertson's artistry could be experienced in many diverse aspects of American culture dating back to the 1960s. That music endures, not just in this collection but in so many forms, from records to films to the digital world. There was no one quite like Robbie Robertson. -Jon Burlingame from his liner notes Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and Canadian Music Hall of Fame inductee Robbie Robertson has enthralled music lovers since The Band's Music From Big Pink changed all the rules for popular music in 1968. Through his career with The Band through his Grammy-nominated and acclaimed solo work, Robertson also excelled in the art of scoring motion pictures. It began with Martin Scorsese's 1978 film The Last Waltz. Next was Carny (which Robertson produced and starred in with Gary Busey and Jodie Foster), to another Scorsese classic, Raging Bull, both in 1980. (His connection with Scorsese lasted over four decades more, with Robertson receiving a posthumous Oscar nomination for 2023's Killers Of The Flower Moon.) Filmworks: Insomnia explores those first three films: The Last Waltz, Carny, and Raging Bull. Released in conjunction with his memoir, Insomnia, which explores his decades long creative partnership with Martin Scorsese, Filmworks: Insomnia features tracks from those three scores, including a previously unissued track from the film Carny. Developed with Robbie's estate, Insomnia is a look into the genesis of Robertson's film work, and shows how his informed take on the musical element compliments the visual. Now available on CD, Filmworks: Insomnia features liner notes longtime noted film/television music expert Jon Burlingame which not only address the music of the films featured, but of the Robertson/Scorsese connection. Insomnia shows how Robbie's music transcends the silver screen. It is difficult to imagine a film without music. It's also incredible to hear how perfectly Robertson's film music lives on alone.
