Wax and Hoppa had created a few tracks together in the past, but when Hoppa became Wax’s tour DJ in 2024, the prolific pair quickly realized they had strong musical chemistry and a shared love for creating songs as often as possible.

“People call it ‘work ethic,’ but when your work is fueled by fun and passion, it is very easy to clock in,” says Wax.

Hoppa brings his portable studio everywhere he goes, and the duo began creating songs between shows in hotel rooms, green rooms, and even in tour vans on long rides across the US and Canada. The result of these mobile sessions is Highway Hotel, an album that finds a perfect middle ground between Hoppa’s raw hip hop background and Wax’s eclectic lyrics and melodic sensibilities.

Hoppa notes that when you are working in casual environments during short time increments, “you are way less likely to overthink. You just do what feels right in the moment and roll with it.”
