With this sixth volume, Felix Koch, the Gutenberg Soloists and the Neumeyer Consort have released the penultimate recordings of this ambitious project. This latest installment is in itself enough to illuminate brilliantly the incomparable and almost incomprehensible talents of this compositional master. Just one more release next spring and all the cantatas that Georg Philipp Telemann composed in 1713-14 for Frankfurt's Barfußerkirche will be available. The wait until then will not seem long, however. The music that once prepared the Frankfurt congregation for the Christmas season is certainly not meant to be heard just once. Telemann treats his listeners to powerful colours and motifs that leave a lasting impression. His settings of the instructive texts of the poet and pastor Erdmann Neumeister are as sensual and picturesque as ever, once again fulfilling the noblest task of frau musica.
