Description
For the third part of her triptych, Kaori Uemura was inspired by an interpretation of the Chinese character ? (Sho - laughter), which is said to depict a priestess dancing with open arms to delight the gods and to celebrate the joy of being. This image guides a journey devoted as much to the laughter of love's games as to the smile that appears in comfort. From Hume's mischief to Bach's tenderness, from Marais' dances to Forqueray's contrasts, the viola da gamba celebrates a joy that does not exclude sorrow. The suffering expressed in the sarabande La D'Aubonne is counterbalanced by the solace of excerpts from the cantata Ich habe genug, transcribed for the viola da gamba and which invite the listener to surrender to rest. The joy of playing and it's consolation nourish the same surge towards the future.
