Panorama Records heads to South Africa for it's next release, shining a light on one of the country's great unsung talents, Mpharanyana. Born Jacob Radebe, Mpharanyana was one of the defining voices of South African soul, disco, and funk during the 1970s, recording with both The Cannibals and The Peddlers while helping shape a uniquely South African take on dance music. Working alongside future legends including Ray Phiri, his records fused soul, disco, mbaqanga, and funk into something entirely his own.On the A-side, ""Get Down"" by Mpharanyana and The Cannibals delivers exactly what the title promises. An irresistible blend of modern soul, boogie and disco, it's the kind of record that feels like sunshine from the first bar. The flip features ""Disco"" by Mpharanyana and The Peddlers, a super-funky slice of South African Afro-disco. Despite Mpharanyana's cult status among collectors, ""Get Down"" has never previously been officially reissued, while the B side was introduced by Kalita Records. Both sides remain incredibly rare.Driven by tight musicianship, infectious hooks and a groove that refuses to quit, this is a genuine dancefloor record for the heads.
